The Rising Popularity of Visual Effects in Marching Band Shows

I've noticed a fascinating trend in recent marching band performances where visual effects, particularly lighting and digital projections, are becoming more prominent. These additions not only enhance the visual storytelling aspect of the shows but also create a unique atmosphere for the audience. Bands are pushing the boundaries of creativity, integrating technology in ways that were traditionally not part of the marching arts. It makes me wonder: are we witnessing the beginning of a new standard for performance production? How do you all feel about this blending of traditional musicianship with modern technology? On another note, with this shift, do you think it changes the dynamics of competition? Some might argue that it distracts from the core skills of musicianship and marching technique, while others may see it as an opportunity for growth and innovation within the activity. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on whether this trend enhances or complicates our art form. Has your band considered implementing similar elements in your shows, and if so, what challenges or successes have you encountered?
